The Art of Eating: Thank you Centotre, George Street

Posted at May 13, 2012 by 0 Comment

This week six food geeks enjoyed an intimate Italian evening at Centotre on George Street to celebrate this month’s theme ‘The Art of Eating’. The owners, Carina and Victor, value high quality Italian produce served in a stylish setting, and an artistic state of mind runs through the core of Centotre and also in their other venture The Scottish Cafe at the Scottish National Gallery.

BKR, Emma Louise, Macaron Mistress, David, Emily and Georgia spent the evening in a foodie gabble; never short of something to talk about when there’s food on the table and a month’s new discoveries to discuss!

Between us we enjoyed Courgette Arancini and a lovely glass of prosecco courtesy of Carina whilst we perused the menu; after eventually deciding upon our choices from the tempting selection on offer for May’s menu we followed these with olives and cripsy garlic bread and our starters.

We opted for Organic Cauliflower Soup, Deep fried batter frittelle and stuffed courgette flowers, Calamari, Antipasto Misto and Bresaola all of which were delicious.

On to main courses, including the Contadino, Calzone, Orata, Patatine and Verdure Grigliate. The mains were filling but just the right size for being so and we swiftly polished off the lot before eyeing up the dessert menu. Being rather indulged by this point we mostly selected coffees and Centotre’s special hot chocolate with two geeks bravely deciding to order dessert with the rest of us rather overcome by our own appetites. A final spot of Limocello rounded the night of nicely befoe we went our separate ways until next time.

We’ll certainly be visiting again in future having had a lovely evening courtesy of Carina, Victor and their team – there’s a fantastic selection of quality Scottish produce being given authentic Italian treatment at Centotre and we struggled to decide between the dishes on offer wth so many taking our fancy.

Over on Lunchquest, BKR has given his view on the evening and the dishes we sampled so head on over for a read to see what he thought.
